Mount Moran stands on the north end of the Teton Range. Its commanding location west of Jackson Lake and Colter Bay, provides stunning “postcard moments” on par with the Grand Teton. A 1918 Scientific American article described Mount Moran as follows, “The summit has never been attained and probably never will, as the last 3,000 feet of the mountain are sheer perpendicular walls of rock.” Just four years later it was climbed by L.H. Hardy, Ben Rich, and Bennet McNulty

Of all the routes on the mountain, the most popular is the classic CMC route, named after members of the Chicago Mountaineering Club who first climbed the route. The most unique characteristic of the CMC route is the approach. Rather than hiking a 6-mile slog around Leigh Lake, most climbers load up canoes and paddle a relaxing and scenic 3-mile line across String Lake and Leigh Lake. The unique approach gives a route a fun “Lewis and Clark” exploration feel. From the shores of Leigh Lake, Mount Moran explodes nearly 6,000 vertical feet in 2 miles.

Beyond the CMC route, Mount Moran contains difficult technical routes on its South Buttress and a stunning ski line from the summit down the Skillet Glacier.
