Reids Peak is the lonely neighbor of the wildly popular Bald Mountain. Reids Peak is nearly as accessible as Bald Mountain, but its steep faces, cliff-lined base, and jagged southeast ridge, keep most casual hikers at a distance. These characteristics make Reids Peak the perfect climb when you want fun climbing terrain, total solitude, but only have a few hours in your schedule.
The most common, and most exciting, route on Reids Peak is the southeast ridge. Most climbers skirt the lower west side of the ridge to climb on 3rd class terrain to the summit; yet, if you keep to the ridge proper, the climb transforms into an exciting 5th class climb with great lines and thrilling exposure. Either way, it’s only a half-day climb, so it’s an easy way to get the fix when you’re short on time.
There are numerous lakes surrounding the base of Reids Peak that are accessible by car and perfect for a weekend camping trip with the family.
