Mount Timpanogos, Utah
EcuadorUtahWashingtonWyomingArizonaColoradoCalifornia

Bald Mountain has the grand distinction as being the easiest, most-accessible summit in the Unita Mountains. Bald Mountain is the only peak in the Uintas with an official, maintained trail to the summit; and, with a trail distance of two miles, and 1,200 vertical feet, to the summit, active families with children are able to plan a leisurely hike and experience the thrill of an mountain summit.

The vast majority of the traffic on Bald Mountain use the Bald Mountain Trail, which begins at the Bald Mountain Pass at the summit of the Mirror Lake Highway. The trailhead is well marked and easily identifiable. To reduce the busyness of the crowds that throng to this mountain in the summertime, try hiking in the early morning to catch the sunrise and experience total solitude.

Word of caution: I forgot to pay the $3.00 fee at 3:00 a.m. at the Mirror Lake Highway self-serve tollbooth and got slapped with a $75 violation fee while my car was parked at the trailhead. I attempted to pay the $3.00 fee on the drive out, but with the classic ambivalence of the Forest Service employees, they declined. Ridiculous? Yes. Do they care? No.
