Mount Timpanogos, Utah
EcuadorUtahWashingtonWyomingArizonaColoradoCalifornia

American Fork Canyon is a dramatic slice through the north side of Mount Timpanogos. This canyon separates Mount Timpanogos from Box Elder Peak and the Alpine Ridge. There are two state parks, multiple campgrounds, and a large cave in the area. For this reason, American Fork Canyon is a popular family destination on summer weekends and can become crowded.

The gem of American Fork Canyon is its high-quality rock climbing routes. If you are searching for hundreds of limestone climbs ranging from 5.6 to 5.14, then you've hit the jackpot. Yet if you're searching for good climbs matched with peaceful solitude, you're better off hiking deep into Rock Canyon, hiking deep into the Salt Lake climbing areas, or driving an hour east to the Uinta Mountains. American Fork Canyon’s rock climbing routes are so easily accessed that most routes are often busy by late morning.

The climbing routes in this canyon are detailed in a book titled "Climber's Guide to American Fork Canyon and Rock Canyon" by Stuart and Bret Ruckman. You can find this book on Amazon.com or at any local climbing store.
