Southern Utah Red Rock is an outdoor heaven. From the hiking in Arches National Park, to the climbing in Zion National Park, to the river rafting on the Colorado River, to the mountain biking in Moab, and to the slot canyons in Canyonlands National Park, visitors are blown away by the diversity, beauty, and remoteness of southern Utah. These areas are Utah’s most famous, and most protected, with five National Parks.
Sprinkled throughout the sandstone desert are a few, unique mountain ranges. The grinding of tectonic plates forms most mountain ranges, but swelling molten magma under the earth’s crust formed these southern ranges. The La Sal and Henry Mountain Ranges are the two youngest mountain ranges on earth. Their peaks top out at 12,721 feet. Great backcountry skiing and climbing can be found in the Tushar Mountains, near Beaver, and La Sal Mountains, near Moab.
