Mount Wolverine is one of five peaks in the Brighton Ridge of the Central Wasatch Mountains. It is the tallest, most rugged and most centrally located peak in the Brighton Ridge. The mountain’s close proximity to Alta and Brighton makes this peak popular backcountry ski terrain, yet the terrain is equally dangerous as it is popular. The west and northwest faces form the Wolverine Cirque, which is infamous for steep chutes and monster avalanches. Wolverine’s east face is more docile and provides long, gradual ski descents.
The shortest routes to the summit of Mount Wolverine is the East Ridge and the North Ridge. For a longer day with awesome scenery, use Mount Wolverine as the second peak of a five-summit ring that circles the Brighton area. Follow Mount Millicent to Mount Wolverine, Mount Tuscarora, Sunset Peak, and Pioneer Peak (superhikers can push two additional miles to Clayton Peak). The valleys below these peaks have well-maintained trails that lead back to Alta and Brighton so you can ditch out at any point and return home.
