Sugarloaf Mountain is located at the east end of the Alpine Ridge in the Central Wasatch Mountains. Beyond Sugarloaf and Devil's Castle, the Alpine and Cottonwood Ridges converge to form five more peaks, then continue to taper off into foothills that lead eastward to the Uinta Mountain Range.

Sugarloaf Mountain provides extensive terrain for the Alta Ski Area, and has been heavily developed for that purpose. Because of this development, a smooth, dirt road leads right to base of Sugarloaf, in the Albion Basin. At the end of this road there is a parking lot, camp area, restrooms, and a number of trails that travel throughout the basin.

Sugarloaf Mountain is a great mountain for beginning hikers. It is possible to get up and down in two hours or less. At the mountain’s base, Albion Basin is known for incredible wildflowers and family-friendly trails. Summer weekends are extremely busy in Albion Basin, yet the weekdays are calm and quiet.
