Red Top is located to the west of American Fork Twin Peaks. Officially it is simply a subpeak of American Fork Twin Peaks massif, but for navigation purposes it has been tagged with this name that appears in guidebooks and maps. Red Top is named for the deep, red stone that coats its surface. Together with Red Baldy, they form a dark vertical stripe through the white granite of the Alpine Ridge.
Red Top is a common summit in both summer and winter. Its proximity to the Snowbird Ski Area makes the summit very accessible. There are four routes to the summit of Red Top. You can take Gad Valley to the North Ridge, White Pine Canyon to the Northwest Ridge or South Ridge, Silver Lake Flat to the South Ridge, or simply take the short stroll from the summits of American Fork Twin Peaks.
