Little Cottonwood Canyon is located on the southeast side of Salt Lake Valley. This canyon is an impressive slice in the large granite peaks of the Central Wasatch Mountains.

Since the early days of pioneer settlement in Salt Lake Valley, Little Cottonwood Canyon has been a major draw for the local population. Initially, Little Cottonwood Canyon was developed for the logging and mining industries, and the town of Alta was founded as part of this development.

Today, the canyon’s major industry is recreation, with both Alta and Snowbird Ski areas located in this canyon. During the winter, backcountry and resort skiing reign as a testament to Utah’s “Greatest Snow on Earth. During the summer, rock climbing takes over as the preferred activity with high quality sport and trad climbs along the entire length of the canyon.

The climbing routes in this canyon are detailed in a book titled "Rock Climbing Utah’s Wasatch Range" by Stuart and Bret Ruckman. You can find this book on Amazon.com or at any local climbing store.
