Mount Timpanogos, Utah

Flagstaff Mountain is the quiet, unassuming neighbor of more inspiring peaks like Mount Superior, Monte Cristo, Mount Wolverine, Devil's Castle, Mount Baldy and American Fork Twin Peaks. This could be a reason why there are no official trails that travel to its summit. Flagstaff Mountain is the perfect peak for beginning hikers, yet it receives little traffic in the summer. The secret of Flagstaff’s terrain and location are more apparent in the cover of winter.

Located near Alta Ski Resort, Flagstaff Mountain is the perfect mountain for quick access to the backcountry slopes. From the summit, you gain access to the ski terrain of Cardiff Fork and Days Fork. Within hours of most snowstorms, you will find a ski track up the south ridge of Flagstaff Mountain leading to the dry-powder bliss of the Wasatch backcountry.

In addition to a rich ski history, Flagstaff Mountain has a rich mining history. Mining workers than settled the town of Alta, pillaged the south face of Flagstaff Mountain leaving multiple mine shafts that remain open today. The most dangerous mine shafts have been covered by the Forest Service to keep hikers from falling in.
